Millions of Indians celebrated Diwali, the festival of lights and one of the most important events in the Hindu calendar, on Thursday. From Ayodhya lighting up with 28 lakh diyas and setting a Guinness World Record to the skies of Mumbai illuminated with firecrackers, India welcomed Goddess Laxmi into their homes on Deepavali with fervour.
In Mumbai, Firecrackers against the skyline at Shivaji Park in Dadar, Mumbai were the highlight of Diwali 2024.To capture the essence of the festival of lights, there have been massive and dazzling decorations. Walking through these illuminated spaces, city folk, greeted by grand installations along with a lot of sparkling fairy lights to setting a festive mood.
In Delhi, the capital celebrated a “Green Diwali” to control the pollution during winters, however, for Deepavali fireworks were allowed between 8 PM and 10 PM, Green crackers, which do not contain harmful chemicals like barium and lead, are the only type permitted during restricted hours.
In Tamil Nadu, the government has taken a unique approach, setting specific time slots for Deepavali firecrackers, from 6 AM to 7 AM and from 7 PM to 8 PM.
To reduce the worsening situation of the pollution there was a complete ban on manufacturing and sale of fireworks other than ‘green’ was followed by all the states.
